Hypertrichosis and hair execess


It’s a typical feminine imperfection characterized by an excessive growth of hair there where they are not usually present (hairless areas). Hirtuism can be caused by and overproduction of male hormones (androgynous)  or by an increased sensitivity towards the actual hormone.


This terms indicates an excess in hair growth in those areas where hair is normally present on the female body . this phenomenon can begin to show in women right after puberty or else it can be trigged by a hormonal dysfunction or following a hormonal treatment.

In both hirtuism and hypertrichosis it is not only important to eliminate the excessive hair but it is also important to discover the causes that have trigged such dysfunctions.

Depilation and Epilation

both terms are used to indicate the removal of excess hair. However, depilation is used when the hair is removed from the skin surface and epilation in the term used when the hair is fully removed from the hair bulb.

The results of a depilation is temporary, as the stem will soon grow back, whereas with an epilation the results can be transitory or permanent

 IPL is able to reduce the growth of excessive hair from body and face by eliminating up to 80% of the hair bulbs.


This particular light is absorbed by the hair that in turn transfer this thermal energy (heat) to the follicle that is progressively destroyed. During the sitting only the hair in the growing phase can be hit, also known as the Anagen phase. Over the following month the remaining hair coming up to the Anagen phase can be hit with the light in the next session gradually eliminating all the unwanted hair bulbs.

Il The treatment

One session of epilation can last a few minutes to up to one hour depending on the size of the area to treat. The areas that can be treated include the legs, the arms, the groin and also the upper lip and chin. Following the treatment is normal to experience some redness or swelling that will however disappear within a few hours. Sun exposure must be avoided for 5 to 7 days following the treatment.

Number of sessions

In order to achieve a permanent and stable reduction it is advise a course of 4 to 8 sessions. Starting from the first session one can already notice a significant reduction of unwanted hair as well as an improvement in the quality of the skin.

Areas that can be treated

All areas of the body and the face can be treated. The spot is 4cmq in size which means that it’s easy to manage even larger areas in a small period of time.
The same method is applied to epilate men: chest area, shoulders and back.

Side effects

The treatment is contraindicated if the skin is tanned or if the patient is under photosensitizing medication. Also IPL epilation is not as efficient in treating white hair and any other hair of little pigmentation.

Pre-treatment advice
  • Avoid sun-beds or sun exposure
  • No waxing or tweezing, however, razor depilation is fine as it still preserves the hair buld.
  • For the reasons explained above, it is not advisable to bleach the hair.
